Committees
& Working Groups
Fall River Chamber Committees enable members to become
involved in the work of their Chamber and the future of our
region. Committee members learn from and build lasting
relationships with their peers, while effecting change in
the Chamber itself, municipal and state government,
businesses and industries represented by the Chamber and in
the community at large. The Chamber is governed by a set of
Standing Committees. Our work on longer term challenges and
opportunities takes place in a growing set of
project-oriented committees, and when short-term issues need
to be addressed, we form ad-hoc committees which disband
after their work is done.
The
Executive Committee consists of the 9 officers of
the corporation, headed by the Chairman of the Board. It
acts for and on behalf of the Board of Directors when not in
session, and is accountable to the Board for all its
actions. The Executive Committee reviews and approves most
of the recommendations of the other Chamber Committees and
sets the agenda for the monthly Board of Director’s
meetings.
The Finance
Committee works with the Treasurer and Chamber staff
to develop an annual budget, track financial performance
throughout the year and recommend changes and adjustments in
financial management, with a goal of improving the overall
financial health of the organization.
The Audit
Committee is responsible for selecting a qualified
auditor each year, for receiving and reviewing the annual
audit, and for presenting it, and recommendations it may
contain, to the Board of Directors and Staff.
The Bylaw
Committee is responsible for maintaining a clear and
effective set of bylaws to guide the governance and mission
of the Chamber. The Nominating Committee handles the annual
job of filling vacancies on the Board of Directors, and
monitors Board Member attendance and participation.
The Human
Resources Committee assists the president in
developing and maintaining a comprehensive set of human
resources policies and procedures, and advises the Finance
Committee on staffing needs and related budget matters.
The Awards
Committee is responsible for the annual selection of
recipients for the various Chamber awards programs.
The
Membership Services Committee oversees selection,
development and distribution of many of the member benefit
programs that provide real value to our member companies.
The Chamber
Ambassadors work to welcome new members and visit
continuing members throughout the year, and serve as our
representatives when new companies have ribbon cuttings or
grand opening ceremonies.
Our
Marketing & Communications Committee handles
development and production of print and electronic media
communication, advertising, public relations, and has
oversight for the Business News & Views, our monthly
business newspaper product. Members have an excellent and
cost effective advertising opportunity in the Business News
& Views as over 5,000 copies go out to our member community
and are distributed free throughout the region each month.
The Chamber
Education Committee operates parental involvement,
teacher appreciation and career awareness programs in
conjunction with the Greater Fall River School to Career
Partnership and our local school systems.
The Chamber’s
Downtown/Waterfront Initiative is working with
the City of Fall River to improve the business climate,
image and visitor experiences in this critical core of our
region.
Our
Government & Legislative Affairs Committee is an
important forum where member business leaders and members of
our Beacon Hill and Capital Hill delegations openly discuss
issues of mutual interest on a monthly basis.
